Vietnam

The national flag of Vietnam consists of a large yellow five-pointed star centered on a red field. The red background symbolizes the struggle for independence and national unity, while the yellow star represents the Vietnamese people. Its five points stand for workers, peasants, soldiers, intellectuals and youth united in building the nation.

Vietnam officially adopted its current national flag on November 30, 1955, after it had first been used by the Viet Minh in 1940 and by North Vietnam from 1945. Following the reunification of the country in 1976, it became the national flag of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
