Somaliland
The flag of Somaliland consists of three horizontal stripes in green, white and red with a black five-pointed star centered on the red stripe. The green stripe bears the Shahada in white, symbolizing the Islamic heritage of the people. White represents peace and prosperity, while red commemorates those who sacrificed for Somaliland. The black star represents the aspirations of the Somali people.
Somaliland adopted its current flag on October 14, 1996. It serves as the official flag of Somaliland, a self-governing territory that declared independence from Somalia in 1991. Although Somaliland operates with its own government and institutions, it is not widely recognized internationally as a sovereign state.
