Abhkazia

The flag of Abkhazia features seven alternating green and white horizontal stripes with a red canton in the upper-left corner. Inside the canton is an open white hand beneath seven white stars. The open hand is an ancient symbol of peace, hospitality and readiness to defend the homeland. The seven stars represent the historical regions of Abkhazia and unity among its people. The green and white stripes symbolize spirituality, nature, peace and coexistence.

The current flag of Abkhazia was adopted on July 23, 1992, shortly before the armed conflict with Georgia. It was designed by Valery Gamgia and combines historic symbols with modern national identity. The open hand is inspired by ancient Abkhaz state seals dating back centuries. Since its adoption, the flag has served as the principal symbol of Abkhazia's self-declared republic, although its political status remains internationally disputed.
