Iran

The national flag of Iran consists of three horizontal stripes in green, white and red with the national emblem centered and the phrase 'Allahu Akbar' repeated along the borders of the white stripe. Green symbolizes growth, happiness and Islam, white represents peace and honesty, while red stands for courage, sacrifice and strength.

The current national flag of Iran was officially adopted on July 29, 1980, following the Iranian Revolution of 1979. The traditional green, white and red tricolor was retained while the Lion and Sun emblem was replaced with the current national emblem and the Kufic inscription was added.
