Brunei
The national flag of Brunei features a yellow field crossed by white and black diagonal stripes with the national coat of arms in red at the center. Yellow represents the Sultan and the monarchy, the white and black bands symbolize Brunei's chief ministers, and the coat of arms reflects Islam, justice, peace and the nation's sovereignty.
Brunei's flag has its origins in the 14th century when a plain yellow banner represented the Sultanate. The white and black diagonal stripes were added in 1906 during the British protectorate, and the national coat of arms was incorporated in 1959 with the adoption of Brunei's constitution. The flag remained unchanged after independence in 1984.
