Laos
The national flag of Laos consists of three horizontal stripes in red, blue and red with a white disc at the center. The red stripes symbolize the blood shed for independence, the blue stripe represents prosperity and the Mekong River, and the white disc signifies unity, justice and the bright future of the Lao people.
Laos officially adopted its current national flag on December 2, 1975, following the establishment of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. Originally designed in 1945, it replaced the former royal flag and has become a symbol of national unity and independence.
