Guinea Bissau
The national flag of Guinea-Bissau consists of a vertical red stripe with a black five-pointed star and two horizontal stripes in yellow and green. Red symbolizes the struggle for independence, the black star represents African unity, yellow reflects the sun and the country's wealth, while green stands for forests, agriculture and hope.
Guinea-Bissau officially adopted its national flag on September 24, 1973, when independence from Portugal was declared. The design was inspired by the flag of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC) and became the official national flag after international recognition in 1974.
