Palau
The national flag of Palau features a light blue field with a large golden-yellow disc slightly offset toward the hoist. The blue background symbolizes the Pacific Ocean and the island nation's connection to the sea, while the golden disc represents the full moon, a traditional symbol of peace, prosperity and harmony in Palauan culture.
Palau officially adopted its current national flag on January 1, 1981, when it became a self-governing republic. The design was created to reflect Palauan culture rather than imitate other Pacific flags, and it remained the national flag after Palau gained full independence in 1994.
