Aruba
The national flag of Aruba features a light blue field with two narrow horizontal yellow stripes near the bottom and a red four-pointed star outlined in white in the upper hoist. The blue symbolizes the Caribbean Sea and clear skies, the yellow stripes represent prosperity and the island's natural resources, while the star stands for Aruba itself, its four principal languages and the diverse origins of its people.
The current flag of Aruba was officially adopted on March 18, 1976. Designed by vexillologist Whitney Smith together with local artist Rufo Wever, it became a symbol of Aruba's distinct identity within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and later represented the island's autonomous Status Aparte established in 1986.
