Monaco

The national flag of Monaco consists of two equal horizontal bands of red and white. Red and white are the historic heraldic colors of the House of Grimaldi, symbolizing courage, honor, purity and peace. The simple design reflects the principality's long-standing royal heritage.

Monaco officially adopted its current national flag on April 4, 1881, during the reign of Prince Charles III. The colors have been associated with the Grimaldi family since the 14th century and remain a symbol of Monaco's sovereignty and monarchy.
