Estonia
The national flag of Estonia consists of three horizontal stripes in blue, black and white. Blue symbolizes the sky, lakes and loyalty, black represents the fertile soil, determination and Estonia's difficult past, while white stands for hope, freedom, light and the nation's aspiration for peace.
The Estonian tricolor was first adopted by the Estonian Students' Society in 1884 and became the national flag on November 21, 1918, following independence. It was restored on August 7, 1990, before the re-establishment of Estonia's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
