Liechtenstein

The national flag of Liechtenstein consists of two horizontal stripes in blue and red with a golden princely crown in the upper hoist. Blue symbolizes the sky above the principality, red represents the evening fires once lit in homes across the country, and the crown reflects the unity of the people and the monarchy.

Liechtenstein officially adopted its blue and red flag in 1921. After it was discovered at the 1936 Olympic Games that the flag was identical to Haiti's, the golden princely crown was added in 1937 to distinguish it and emphasize the country's status as a principality.
