Madagascar
The national flag of Madagascar consists of a vertical white band at the hoist and two horizontal bands of red and green. White symbolizes purity and the country's aspirations for peace, red represents sovereignty and the struggle for independence, while green reflects hope, agriculture and the island's rich natural environment.
Madagascar officially adopted its current national flag on October 14, 1958, shortly before gaining full independence from France in 1960. The colors combine symbols of the historic Merina Kingdom with those representing the rural population and national renewal.
