India
The national flag of India, known as the Tiranga, consists of three horizontal stripes of saffron, white and green with a navy blue Ashoka Chakra at the center. Saffron symbolizes courage and sacrifice, white represents peace and truth, green stands for faith, fertility and prosperity, while the 24-spoke Ashoka Chakra signifies righteousness, progress and the continuous movement of life.
India officially adopted its current national flag on July 22, 1947, shortly before gaining independence from British rule on August 15, 1947. The design, based on a flag created by Pingali Venkayya, replaced the spinning wheel with the Ashoka Chakra to symbolize justice, law and national progress.
