Vanuatu
The national flag of Vanuatu features red, green and black horizontal fields divided by a black Y-shape edged in yellow. Green symbolizes the islands' fertile land, red represents the blood of those who fought for freedom, black stands for the Melanesian people, and yellow signifies the light of Christianity. The boar's tusk and crossed namele leaves represent prosperity, tradition and peace.
Vanuatu officially adopted its current national flag on February 18, 1980, shortly before gaining independence from the Anglo-French Condominium on July 30, 1980. The design reflects the nation's cultural heritage and unity.
