Taiwan

The national flag of Taiwan, officially the Republic of China, consists of a red field with a blue canton bearing a white sun with twelve rays. Red symbolizes the livelihood and sacrifice of the people, blue represents liberty, justice and nationalism, while the white sun signifies democracy, equality and progress. The twelve rays represent the traditional Chinese double hours of the day and continual advancement.

The flag was first adopted by the Republic of China in 1928 and has remained the official flag administered in Taiwan since 1949. The design combines the White Sun emblem created by Lu Hao-tung with the red field added by Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary movement.
