Albania

The national flag of Albania features a black double-headed eagle centered on a red background. The red color symbolizes bravery, strength and the blood shed for freedom. The double-headed eagle represents sovereignty, courage and the historical legacy of the Albanian people, tracing its origins to the medieval hero Skanderbeg.

The Albanian flag has its roots in the 15th century when the national hero Skanderbeg used the black double-headed eagle on a red banner while leading the resistance against the Ottoman Empire. After Albania declared independence in 1912, the flag was officially adopted. Although minor design adjustments were made over time, the red flag with the black eagle has remained the enduring national symbol of Albania.
