Uganda
The national flag of Uganda consists of six horizontal stripes in black, yellow and red repeated twice, with a white disc containing the grey crowned crane at the center. Black symbolizes the people of Africa, yellow represents the African sunshine, and red stands for the brotherhood and shared blood of all people. The grey crowned crane is Uganda's national bird and symbolizes peace and gentle strength.
Uganda officially adopted its current national flag on October 9, 1962, the day it gained independence from the United Kingdom. The design was created by Grace Ibingira and has remained the country's national symbol ever since.
