Torres Strait Island
The Torres Strait Islander Flag features green panels above and below a blue field divided by black stripes, with a white dhari (traditional headdress) and a five-pointed star. Green represents the land, blue symbolizes the surrounding seas, black stands for the Torres Strait Islander people, the dhari reflects cultural identity, and the star represents peace, navigation and the island groups.
The flag was designed by Bernard Namok in 1992 and was officially proclaimed a Flag of Australia in 1995. It has become an enduring symbol of Torres Strait Islander identity, culture and heritage.
