Puerto Rico
The flag of Puerto Rico consists of five horizontal red and white stripes with a blue triangle at the hoist containing a white five-pointed star. The red stripes symbolize the blood and vitality of the people, the white stripes represent liberty and individual rights, the blue triangle stands for the republican form of government, and the white star represents the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
The Puerto Rican flag was first adopted by the Puerto Rican independence movement in 1895. It became the official flag of Puerto Rico on July 25, 1952, when the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico was established. The design is inspired by the Cuban flag while expressing Puerto Rico's own national identity.
