Malawi
The national flag of Malawi consists of three horizontal stripes in black, red and green with a red rising sun centered in the black stripe. Black symbolizes the people of Africa, red represents the blood shed in the struggle for freedom, green reflects the country's fertile land and natural vegetation, and the rising sun signifies hope and the dawn of freedom across Africa.
Malawi officially adopted its national flag on July 6, 1964, upon gaining independence from the United Kingdom. After a different design was briefly used from 2010 to 2012, the original flag with the rising sun was restored and continues to represent the nation's identity and independence.
