Libya
The national flag of Libya consists of three horizontal stripes in red, black and green, with the black stripe being twice the height of the others and bearing a white crescent and five-pointed star. Red symbolizes the struggle for freedom, black commemorates resistance and historic Cyrenaica, green represents prosperity, agriculture and Tripolitania, while the crescent and star reflect Islam.
Libya officially re-adopted its current national flag on August 3, 2011, after it had originally served as the national flag from 1951 to 1969. The design was first introduced upon Libya's independence and remains a symbol of sovereignty, unity and national heritage.
