Korea South
The national flag of South Korea, known as the Taegeukgi, features a white field with a red-and-blue Taegeuk symbol at the center and four black trigrams in each corner. White represents peace and purity, the Taegeuk symbolizes the balance of opposing forces such as yin and yang, and the trigrams represent heaven, earth, fire, water and the harmony of the universe.
The Taegeukgi was first introduced in 1883 during the Joseon Dynasty. Following the establishment of the Republic of Korea, it became the national flag in 1949. The current official specifications were standardized in 2011, preserving its historical symbolism and national identity.
