Benin
The national flag of Benin consists of a vertical green band at the hoist and two horizontal bands of yellow and red on the fly. Green symbolizes hope, renewal and the country's fertile landscapes, yellow represents wealth and prosperity, while red honors the courage and sacrifices made in the nation's history.
The current flag of Benin was originally adopted on November 16, 1959, before independence from France in 1960. It was temporarily replaced during the Marxist-Leninist period from 1975 to 1990 by a plain green flag. Following democratic reforms, the original tricolor was restored on August 1, 1990, and remains the national flag today.
