Barbados
The national flag of Barbados consists of three vertical stripes in ultramarine, gold and ultramarine with a black broken trident centered on the gold band. The blue stripes represent the sea and sky, the gold symbolizes the island's sandy beaches, and the broken trident stands for the nation's break from colonial rule and its commitment to democracy and independence.
The current flag of Barbados was officially adopted on November 30, 1966, when the country gained independence from the United Kingdom. Designed by Grantley W. Prescod, the flag replaced the colonial ensign and has since become a proud symbol of Barbadian sovereignty, freedom and national identity.
