Central African Republic
The national flag of the Central African Republic consists of four horizontal stripes in blue, white, green and yellow crossed by a vertical red stripe, with a yellow five-pointed star in the upper hoist. The colors combine the French tricolor with the Pan-African colors, symbolizing unity between Europe and Africa. The red stripe represents the shared blood of humanity and national sacrifice, while the star stands for hope and independence.
The flag was designed by Barthélemy Boganda, the country's founding leader, and officially adopted on December 1, 1958, before independence from France in 1960. It was intended to express harmony between different cultures and has remained the national flag ever since.
