Somalia
The national flag of Somalia consists of a light blue field with a single white five-pointed star in the center. The blue originally reflected the influence of the United Nations during Somalia's path to independence and now also symbolizes the sky and the Indian Ocean. The white star, known as the Star of Unity, represents the Somali people and the five historic regions where Somalis traditionally lived.
Somalia officially adopted its national flag on October 12, 1954. Designed by Mohammed Awale Liban, it became the symbol of the independent Somali Republic in 1960 and continues to represent national unity and sovereignty.
