Congo Republic of the
The national flag of the Republic of the Congo consists of a diagonal yellow band running from the lower hoist to the upper fly, separating a green upper triangle and a red lower triangle. Green symbolizes the country's forests and agriculture, yellow represents friendship, generosity and natural wealth, while red honors the struggle for independence and the courage of the Congolese people.
The flag was first adopted on September 15, 1959, shortly before independence from France in 1960. It was replaced during the Marxist-Leninist period between 1970 and 1991 by a plain red flag with a green emblem. The original tricolor was restored on June 10, 1991, and remains the national flag today.
